Richard Warren Wolfe was born on April 30, 1923, in Wrangell, Alaska. He was the son of Henry A. E. Wolfe and Irene I. Wolfe, of McCleary, Washington.
Richard served in the #22 Operational Training Unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Flying Officer during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 3, 1943, aboard Vickers Wellington III HF645, which took off from RAF Gaydon to bomb an ammunition dump in the Foret de Raismes, France, with PFF support. The port engine caught fire on the return leg, and the control was lost while trying to extinguish it. The aircraft spun in at Wantage, Hertfordshire.
